Du Huo Ji Sheng is a Traditional Chinese Medicine formula that is designed to help combat stiffness and pain in the joints in the lower half of the body and can really be a big help to your pet, especially if she is getting older (because this formula also has herbs that improve digestion and increase energy levels-- two underlying issues that should be addressed when dealing with chronic joint pain and stiffness in a geriatric context).

Du Huo Ji Sheng Wan is especially helpful for senior animals with chronic lameness or disc disease that is worse with exertion or with cold. These arthritic conditions are more painful in the cold and damp of winter than they are in the warm, dry summer. They become progressively weaker as they walk and dread going out in the cold. In addition to helping geriatric pets with arthritis, this formula also helps with dry eyes, deafness, increased drinking (excessive thirst), urination (PUPD), and with numbness and tingling. It is also often helpful for degenerative myelopathy.

Note that this formula is best applied in situations where the joint pain and stiffness is associated with cold and damp and is not much help for dogs that have joint infections, such as Lyme’s disease may cause; additionally, It is not helpful for dogs with osteomyelitis or bone injection. These are “excess” or heat diseases, and Du Huo Ji Sheng is ideal for deficiency diseases.

Herbal Ingredients in this formula:

Sang Ji Sheng (Taxillus chinensis stem & leaf), Shu Di Huang (Rehmannia glutinosa root (prep.)), Dang Shen (Codonopsis pilosula root), Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis root), Fu Ling (Poria cocos sclerotium), Du Huo (yan) (Angelica pubescens root), Huai Niu Xi (Achyranthes bidentata root), Du Zhong (Eucommia ulmoides bark (salt-fried)), Bai Shao (Paeonia lactiflora root), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia divaricata root), Qin Jiao (Gentiana macrophylla root), Rou Gui (Cinnamomum cassia bark), Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum chuanxiong rhizome), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhiza uralensis root).

Arthritis Relief for my Lab

My beloved 11 year old yellow Lab has responded well to the combination of Yunnan Baiyo, Turkey Tail and Stasis Breaker I am using to manage a mass on her heart, however, in recent months, she began exhibiting signs of advancing arthritis. Recently, I added Solitary Hermit to supplement acupuncture and massage therapy- she is already responding well and appears have diminished discomfort.

Solitary Hermit for lower back, hip, knee pain, legs splaying

My geriatric dog with hemangiosarcoma ((skin type) is on Yunnan but also developed rapid onset of arthritis symptoms that were impairing his mobility. Vet put him on twice daily Tramadol. This RX dosing makes for complexities in estimating the impact of Solitary Hermit alone, but as soon as I started it he has had more flexibility and energy.
